Bye Gokcan ilbay

November 27, 2007

On November 22, about a year ago, manager Gokcan ilbay started to translate on the remaining 739 language-items for the Turkish translation. A few months later, after a complete check of everything what the previous translators had written, SoccerProject became available in the Turkish language. A great achievement fow which I’m still very thankful…

But today is the 21st day of inactivity for Gokcan ilbay, so his account will be erased tonight. Luckily I didn’t have to look very long for a replacement. Manager su005230 from team shi-team will try to update the Turkish translation and maintain it when necessary. Thanks for that and Good luck su005230 !

The Czech newsletter

Czech newsletter

I got a message from manager happyna17 with some news about the Czech newsletter. They have a new URL and although I don’t understand a word of it, I think it looks great. Hopefully their new design wil attract some new Czech and Slovak SoccerProject managers.

Speaking of the Czech republic… I have a very hard time finding some decent advertising for our Eastern European participants. Most Ad networks only handle Western Europe and the US wel. So if anyone has any contacts in that area, don’t hesitate to contact me 😉

2 short stories

November 22, 2007

Story 1 : Czech manager decides to put his ‘password reminder’-mail on the Czech forum. Result : Several Czechs log on on his account and one of them decides to put all of his youngsters on the transfer list for free and change the password.

Story 2 : Email-address of a Romanian manager gets hacked. Result : His SoccerProject account is hacked as well and he has a very hard time proving it was his account before.

Just in case you were wondering what I am doing when I’m not implementing new features or fixing bugs : clearing up the mess 😉

Thanks to el stino I did fix a bug as well though. Apparently there still was an issue with the block friendly feature which he luckily found on the betasite before it occured on

SP Lifestyle

November 17, 2007

Manager Cicco showed me his new project a few days ago: SP Lifestyle. It’s a Digg-Clone dedicated to SoccerProject. I think it’s a great idea in combination with his other initiative SP Communitiez and wish him good luck. Let’s hope this one wil catch on amongst SoccerProject managers …

Btw, you can read all about this at Cicco’s blog .

I discovered a new service today, simply by surfing the web. FeedM8 allows you to enable your blog to mobile readers. I’m aware I don’t have hundreds of readers dying to be able to get this blog onto their mobile, but nevertheless I still wanted to try this.

Subscription was very simple, adding a button to the blog as well. I don’t see why a blogger wouldn’t add this possibility to his blog. If you’re succesful, you might even earn some money from it, but I’m sure that won’t be the case with me 😉

To finish, one remarkable feature they provide : SMS delivery. Instead of requiring you to remember the full Feed-Url and type it onto your mobile, you can have the URL delivered by SMS for free, which is very handy obviously.

Since about a week it’s possible to pay for SPFA-membership with Wallie. Wallie is an International online payment system which works with prepaid cards which can simply be purchased in the shop nextdoor.

At the moment they’re most spread in Belgium and the Netherlands, but they are planning on expanding to other countries as well. For instance in the United Kingdom it’s already available as well.

The biggest advantage of this system is it’s simplicity. Anyone, even a 12-year-old can walk into a shop, buy a Wallie-card for €5, take it home and fill in the unique Wallie-card number on SoccerProject. Simple as that…

There is a downside too of course. There is more overhead cost related to a Wallie transaction compared to other transactions but Wallie is trying very hard to keep that as low as possible for the moment.

We’ve been trying very hard over the last few years to simplify payment and it looks like we have found a very easy-to-use solution now. I hope this will enable a lot of potential SPFA-members to pay without using a credit card or bank transfer.

Wallie SoccerProject Banner

Another nice advantage of our cooperation with Wallie is the fact they are showing our banner on their homepage. Because of this I had to ask our designer for a new banner and he decided to create a special one for this occasion, which looks very nice imho 🙂

Internet radio

Screamer Radio

Yesterday my father asked me how to record the livestream from the Belgian radio channel 4FM. They were about to stream the hundred best songs chosen by their listeners and he wanted to record this.

Since I don’t have any experience with streaming, I started looking for the available software and soon I found Screamer Radio. Screamer Radio is a freeware Internet Radio player for Windows, which was exactly what I was looking for. Installation went smooth and then the only thing left to do was to fill in the streaming URL which was

That one I found on Portal.Fm, but maybe I could have found it on the 4FM website as well.

Anyway, after having filled in the URL, I only needed to press the ‘REC’-button and the stream was saved on my harddisk in mp3. Mission accomplished !

I’ll be giving him the 600MB mp3-file later this evening, I wonder how long it will take before he asks me how to easily split it in separate mp3-files of each song …
