26th language !

August 7, 2008

Another language. Unbelievable, but Indonesian is the 26th SoccerProject language already. Thanks to Andhi97 we now reach 50 million more people, simply amazing !

I’ve also uploaded 2 more movies about the meeting, I think every interesting picture and movie is online now.

How to automate editing an Msi-file using a simple script

August 6, 2008

Note : This is a tech post, prolly not really interesting to most SoccerProject-readers who follow this blog. My apologies to them.

Today I found something which I’ve been wanting to find out for a long time and which will save me a lot of time in the future. For the past few years I managed a C# Visual Studio application and its Setup Project. During installation the user needs to fill in a password and unfortunately it’s not possible in VS to define the textbox as Password-Masked.

Therefor I manually used Orca, which is a nice tool for this, but it took me 5 extra minutes for each new installation version I had to make, which happened quite often. Not to mention the times I forgot to execute this Post Build Step manually. You can find a very good article on how to do this on The CodeProject.

So I started looking once again today for a way to automate this and hey, I was finally lucky at EggHeadCafe. Within five minutes I had myself a little VB-script, added it as a PostBuildStep to my Installer Project and now I never have to think about it ever again. Everything will be handled automatically πŸ™‚

Below you can find the script-code which is completely copied from the link above. This posting is provided “AS IS” with no warranties, and confers no rights. I hope it will be useful for some of you in the future…

Dim installer : Set installer = Nothing
Set installer = Wscript.CreateObject("WindowsInstaller.Installer")

Dim openMode : openMode = msiOpenDatabaseModeTransact
Dim database : Set database = installer.OpenDatabase("MySetup.msi", openMode)
Dim view : Set view = database.OpenView("UPDATE Control SET Control.Attributes = '2097159' WHERE Control.Dialog_ = 'CustomTextA' AND Control.Control = 'Edit1'")
view.Execute

database.Commit

SoccerProject Meeting Brussels 2008 : Pictures

SoccerProject Meeting Brussels 2008

August 5, 2008

As promised earlier, some more writings on the meeting. I’ve put some videos on YouTube already, but there’s more where that came from. I’m hoping to upload more stuff later this week, I’ll keep you posted.

Anyway, the meeting was very nice again. For the fourth time already a SoccerProject-meeting was organised in Belgium. After Betekom, Tongeren and Gent, this year it was up to Brussels, Nossegem to be to precise. Allthough almost 30 managers subscribed, only 21 turned out to be there due to some late cancellations. Luckily the remaining turned out to be a bunch of nice guys and even girls…

We started out with a short chat but then of course the main event had to take place. Like every time a few football lovers by the sideline but most of them playing a real-time soccer game on the field. For those of you who want to know, I believe the white guys won the game 2-1.

After the game everyone got the chance to kick a penalty. Even though both Isis and Aura kicked one, the award for the most girly penalty goes (like last year) to visje69. Especially the position of his left arm should be worked on. No wonder BadBuffalo had no trouble at all stopping this one.

After the game we had a very good barbecue and unlike last years sausages from Raffin, this time they weren’t black πŸ˜‰ With dinner over we were ready to go somewhere else and the majority decided we’d go to a local pub to snooker and pool.

While not all of us were as good as Hoevi, I think we all had a good time over there as well.

I’d like to thank the organisers El Stino, cantagallina & T-man and I’m already looking forward to next year… in Antwerp so I’ve heard.

SoccerProject in Sweden

Sweden in the country rankings

Sweden in the country rankings

Today I got to meet Swedish managers Haampz and
mikael_mellgren. Not in person, just online of course πŸ˜‰

It turns out we do have some big fans in Sweden. I’ve always thought this was never going to happen so I’m really glad SoccerProject does have some Swedish “addiction” going on now. Haampz is going for the title with his team Sidus IF and mikael_mellgren has already made it into division G with GΓ€rdet, so there are even good managers over there πŸ˜‰

Haampz also has it’s own blog and made a nice post about SoccerProject. Be sure to read it, if you know any Swedish of course πŸ˜› : http://haampz.blogspot.com/ . Together they are going to try to attract more Swedish managers to SoccerProject. I certainly hope it will work out !

In short, two other small changes. You can now choose which types of message you want to receive from a newly added favourite team immediately, instead of having to edit it afterwards. I’m quite sure this will come in handy for a lot of managers. And for our Dutch friends, I’ve changed the word “Plein” into “Veld”, because they told me (at the SoccerProject meeting in Brussels) yesterday, they were confused because of that word. More about the meeting in my next post, by the way.
